A Community Conversation On Alzheimers Bill Buckmaster leads a panel discussing your questions and concerns about alzheimers |
THE FORGETTING: A PORTRAIT OF ALZHEIMER'S
This moving documentary focuses on the scientific quests to eradicate Alzheimer’s and on the families whose lives have been steadily ravaged by it. Thursday, August 7th 8:00-9:30 p.m.
Isabelle McKenna, pictured here with her daughter Maureen, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1990. In the disease’s final stages, Isabelle lost everything but the ability to sense human touch and the steadfast devotion of her family. And with each passing year, her family lost more and more of the woman they loved. THE FORGETTING brings viewers close to the intense, real-world experience of patients and families affected by Alzheimer’s.
Following the national documentary “The Forgetting,” Arizona Public Media presents a special program featuring local panelists who will answer viewers’ questions about Alzheimers live on Channel 6 KUAT from 9:30 – 10:30 PM. Hosted by Bill Buckmaster, the panel features experts who together have decades of experience dealing with families afflicted by disability and memory loss that come with the disease.
Included in the hour, Kimberly Craft reports on the impact Alzheimers has in Southern Arizona, where each year 14,500 people in Pima County are diagnosed with the disease. The situation is more acute because it is compounded by newcomers who come here to retire and find themselves unprepared and without family support when they become disabled in old age. Craft presents profiles of three families dealing with Alzheimers, as they struggle with the effects that can be devastating, physically, emotionally and financially.
If you feel that this type of programming is important and of value to this community, please consider showing your support by pledging to KUAT6 online. Thank you!
We're here to answer your questions during A Community Conversation On Alzheimers, an hour-long followup program featuring an exceptional panel of health professionals from Southern Arizona.
